Poetry: “The long wait”

End of January and spring is still very far away (unless you live on the southern hemisphere, then this is still summer, with fall quite a ways away yet).

The long wait

Any wait seems longer

When you wait for something good

And what wait is much harder

Than the anguished wait for spring

So sore of winter’s drudgery

When the holidays are past

As February rolls around

You all wait for winter’s end

Yet as it seems to never end

Then you notice some small change

First the slow return of light

And how sun begins to warm

The wait for spring seems much too long

And you curse the snow that falls

But on the day she doth arrive

Then the wait is soon forgot
