Poetry: “Winter solstice”

The day important to my ancient ancestors, though the nature phenomenon affects me deeply even today.

Winter solstice

Soon arriving

Darkest day

When the night

It seems to stay

Turning point

For northern lands

When winter darkness

Grows less dim

Slowly sunlight

Rallies forth

Though the spring

Is far away

Light a fire

Beat your drum

Chase the goblins

From your door

When solstice comes

That night is conquered

By the day
