Poetry: “Christmas songs”

We’re less than two weeks away now, so by now Christmas songs are everywhere (and going stale fast perhaps).

Christmas songs

The best Christmas songs are secular

No mention of a god above

No star of Bethlehem that shines

And no angel choirs sing

There is no baby jesus

Only children in their beds

Awaiting Christmas morning

For the gifts under the tree

There are no shepherds in their fields

Only snow that’s glowing white

And sleigh bells jingling in the air

As you go on merry rides

There is no solemn worship

Only chestnuts on the fire

And pretty decorates trees

That doth brighten up the room

The best Christmas songs are secular

They’re about that certain mood

That hits you with a cozy glow

When the holidays arrive
