Poetry: “Like the birds”

I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with the colder parts of the year, partially illustrated in this piece.

***~***~***~***

Like the birds

Allow me once

To dream away

To be just like the birds

Who leave our lands in such great flocks

To fly to warmer lands

Starlings, swallows, and the crane

Take that trip down south

Spreading wings

Taking flight

To flee our snow and frost

Such a sign of fall it is

To see those geese up high

Much like how it’s

A sign of spring

To see them all return

Though there is some goodness

In our seasonal change

Like colored leaves

And the first snow

The cold, it bothers me

So pardon me

If I doth wish

That I had great wings too

To spread them wide

And fly away

And be just like the birds
