Poetry: “The roses”

Vaguely based on one of the same historical events that GRRM based some of his Song of Ice and Fire books on. Vague, or?

***~***~***~***

The roses

Red roses

White roses

Roses laced with thorns

Such a fragrant beauty

With such hidden pain

Roses growing taller

Roses growing strong

Flowers much beloved

Had a part in history

Once the roses had a war

The red ones ‘gainst the white

Once the red and white alike

Were dyed a dripping red

Roses white

And roses red

Were cut and sheared in two

Roses white

And roses red

Arose and became kings

One rose slayed another

So that one could be crowned

But crowns are very heavy

And a rose is rather frail

Red roses

White roses

Did we learn at all

That sometimes blood can taint a thing

That was once beautiful
